At the heart of every relationship is trust. Trust is one of the key pillars supporting relationships. This explains why many relationships break up or fizzle out even before they begin. If you find it difficult to trust someone or you are in a relationship with someone who finds it difficult to commit then, listed below are some of the reasons that will help you understand the source of the problems.
Childhood Experiences
People who experienced situations that traumatized them during their childhood may find it challenging to trust people. A young lady who witnessed an abusive, violent, or infidel relationship between her parents or saw them go through a painful divorce may find it almost impossible to trust people who want to build intimate relationships with her. Do not allow other people’s choices to ruin your life. Leave the old baggage behind!
Low Self-Esteem
People with low self- esteem often believe that genuine love and attention is too good to be true. They are often very convinced that they are worthless and unlovable hence, acts of genuine love and kindness are often viewed with suspicion. Some people react by being overly possessive and jealous, constantly living in fear of being abandoned. Every manufacturer understands the worth of their product. God understands your worth and value, that was why He gave His best to redeem you! (The price you are willing to pay depicts the value you place on a product).
Programming
This often takes place when you gradually imbibe the thoughts, dispositions, and behaviour patterns of others. This is because people’s behaviour and attitudes are often influenced by their upbringing, environment and interaction with family, friends and colleagues. For instance, if you grew up with a father who had difficulty trusting women, you may have been programmed (imbibed this behaviour) to distrust women without knowing. He who walks with the wise (financially, maritally, socially etc) shall be wise.
Previous Relationships
If you were taken advantage of, cheated on, or lied to in your previous relationships, you may stop trusting people in order to protect yourself from emotional harm or suffering. Do not allow yesterday’s pains to steal today’s joy and happiness, rather, learn from your experience and move on.
You may not be able to change your past, but you can change your FUTURE.
LOVE YOURSELF, LOVE YOUR LIFE.
GOD LOVES YOU THE WAY YOU ARE, TRUST HIM TO HEAL YOUR EMOTIONAL WOUNDS!
