Vacation is a word that means different things to different people. For some, it means an escape from work; an unaffordable luxury; a necessity; for others, it is an endless future project. According to Dictionary.com, “vacation is a period of suspension of work, study, or other activity, usually used for rest, recreation, or travel; recess or holiday.”
Although, vacation does not always involve travelling, it would be nice to change your environment. Priority should be placed on suspending your regular activity.
Unfortunately, lack of job security, increasing financial demands, corporate rat-race, invasive nature of most technology, increasing demands on our time, lack of effective planning, etc., has kept many couples from embarking on a much needed vacation.
Hence, we are recording a gradual depreciation of marital romance as the quality of life also depreciates. A certain woman who changed her work pattern and took time off with her family told her husband humorously that she didn’t realise she could be as nice as she is right now.
When was the last time you went on vacation? Rather than say I can’t afford a vacation, the question should be how can I afford it?
ACTION POINT: Have a discussion with your spouse to discuss your thoughts on vacation.
