I read a report by the National Business Aviation Association, USA in which it was pointed out that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) raised a safety alert, strongly urging pilots to rely less on the Autopilot system. You may want to ask why, considering that it makes flying easier, while improving precision operations. The report stated that when pilots rely excessively on the autopilot system, their skill level begins to degenerate, reducing their ability to quickly and effectively recover the plane from a dangerous situation.
This got me thinking about how this applies to marriage. Well, let me shed some light. In my years of listening to, counselling and coaching couples, I have come to discover that many couples, consciously or unconsciously, place their marriage on autopilot. They see each other daily, spend time without engaging, they are in the same space, but live in different ‘continents’. They are busy with other people and things, but their marriage, then it happens! Something happens that causes the bottom to drop, an announcement is made that shatters the spouse. Then the questions begin to gush out like an endless Spring….how could you? Why??? Who is he/she? I thought you were happy!!!
