Life can be so busy that we fail to ‘see’ the people around us – our loved ones. Usually, when my wife and I wake up, after praying, we spend some time communicating – the regular ‘couples talk’, often not about any topic in particular. This has become our practice over the years and I have come to notice that it helps us bond.
I used to think that it is something we do because we are best friends, but thinking about it again, I have come to realise that it is a behaviour we were subtly conditioned to adopt. We saw our parents indulge in it, they still do.
Why am I highlighting this? The fact is that before the society, church or a coach teaches anybody about relationships and marriage, our guardians and parents would have laid a positive or negative foundation. They are our first coaches, simple!
Hence, if you are married, be reminded that your children would carry on your philosophies, values and attitudes about relationships and marriage into their own relationships and marriages.
