I Owe My Success To My Mother!

An incubator supports and preserves life while it is still tender. The medical incubator is a valuable equipment to the medical profession. Many babies who were in incubators after they were born are now healthy men and women. However, there are other types of ‘incubators’ – Mothers.

Mothers have the capacity to nurture their children’s dreams, imagination and self-image. Many of us had dreams as younger persons and in hindsight, we can only laugh at ourselves for the dreams we had then. Yet, our Mothers encouraged us to dream. They were more interested in the process of stretching the imagination than the product of the imagination at that time, knowing that the process influences the end product.

“And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in your womb, and two manner of people shall be born of you; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.” Genesis 25:23
From this scripture, we can see that Rebekah took it upon herself to inquire of God, the giver of destiny and in the process, she got more than she expected, the knowledge of her children’s identity. As Mothers, this is a major role we must play in the lives of our children, as this will position us to sell a dream to them. You can only sell a dream you know and are convinced about. This is why it is important you earn the right to speak into their lives and be listened to by bonding with them. Most parents speak, but not all are listened to. The right to be listened to must be ‘earned’, you can’t force it. Connect with their hearts, demonstrate you believe in them, say it, act it, live it. Poor Mothers use criticisms to motivate; average Mothers complement only; great Mothers reward, coupled with putting in place a structure. For instance, if you notice that your child has a talent in music, rather than appreciating it alone, get him/her extra help, an instrument, a mentor, etc. A Mother is an incubator.

THINK & ACT: Relentlessly sell your child a dream, they may sound dismissive at first, but if you persist, things will change.
