The fact that the world is a global village has become a cliché, it is no longer news. Today, you can share a message or interact real-time with someone in another timezone and a thousand kilometres away from you. This used to be possible only in science fiction movies, today, it is a walk in the park. It is the social era and social media platforms have become a major community where people meet, interact and transact. Interestingly, this also involves employment. Today, an employer can find, interview and screen someone they want to hire before meeting them and in some cases, never meet them at all. What is the implication of this to your career? What threats and opportunities does this reality bring to your doorstep?
Talking about recruitment, I would like to ask some questions – what is your digital footprint? What brand and image are you projecting online? If I google or search for you on Social media, what impression would I get… a professional or irresponsible person, a boring or energetic person, etc? Do you have a LinkedIn account? Are you on any professional platform? Are you a columnist, a blogger, an author, an authority in your field or are you just in it for the money? When big opportunities come knocking, are you positioned to be found? Some people don’t apply for jobs because jobs look for them, are you one of those people?
THINK & ACT: Audit your digital footprint, your online image; take charge of your brand. More so, get in touch with a career/brand coach to help you repackage yourself.
