Girls’ Time Out: Understanding women!
Betty: For me, talking with my husband without the interruption of our smart phones, TV, tablet or any other gadget is very important, not even our children can take that place. I practically look forward to it, a time just for us to connect and bond. I have come to value it more because I observed that it contributes to keeping our love and romance fresh and spicy.
Gemma: It’s also a bonding time for me as well. However, it’s a time I just want someone to listen. I don’t want ‘solutions’, ‘suggestions’ or ‘advice’, just listen without judging or drifting. This is something I have had to teach my husband many times, but he is gradually beginning to get it. There seems to be a machine in his brain that switches into a problem-solving mode whenever I complain about things. If only men will get this, I think a lot of women will be more willing to share.
Annabelle: When I read, sometime ago, that whenever women are stressed, they often talk to release the stress, a light bulb went off in my head. For the first time, I understood why I often feel the way I do when I am unable to really talk with my husband. I remember one time when he was transferred to another country with a different time zone, we could not talk as much as we usually do. The pressure and frustration built up so high that I took to online chatting, I had to stop myself when I observed it was gradually becoming an addiction.
Chidi: This is an educative forum because some of our men are not even aware of these needs. A woman needs to talk for various purposes.
ACTION POINT: Engage your wife; go beyond giving headlines when she asks you “how was your day?”
