Collaboration in marriage is the process of working together with your spouse to produce a common result. This implies that you must set aside your own desires to accomplish what will mutually benefit your relationship. This can happen between dating singles, the engaged-to-be-married and married couples alike. Personally, we collaborate a lot on a number of things such as writing, publishing, speaking, etc.. These activities are avenues through which we accomplish the purpose of our marriage. Hence, to collaborate effectively, you must define the purpose of your relationship/marriage. As a single lady, if the man just wants someone to hang out with (nothing serious), it helps you define the commitment and investment you will put into the relationship.
Talking about discovering the purpose of your marriage, it is important for you to ask yourself the following:
1. what experiences do we want to have in this marriage?
2. If we had one week to live, what would we focus on?
3. Why are we together?
4. What do other people appreciate about our relationship the most?
5. What legacy do we want to leave behind?
6. Lastly, pray; God is always willing to guide those who approach him in humility.
When we collaborate to fulfil the purpose of our marriage, we connect at a deeper level, helping us build intimacy. For instance, when we worked on the our first set of books, we would wake up at about 5am, pray, prepare for the day, go to work, get back to work on the books till 1am, then go to bed till 5am the next morning. This continued for weeks. Even when we went to the studio at weekends, we would return home around 2am sometimes 3am. As we worked collaborated, together, we built a deeper level of intimacy, deeper than what we used to have.
Collaborate with your spouse today and watch the intimacy you share drastically improve!
