In marriage, the lives of couples would either improve or deteriorate. Marriage leaves nobody the same. Marriage reveals who we are; our values, our strengths and weaknesses. Well, at least this has been our experience, being in each other’s space, day in, day out, reveals a lot. This is why people say humourously that marriage is an eye-opener.

One thing that helps us in our marriage is our willingness to collaborate, not just compromise. Compromise involves two people giving up part of what they want to reach a mutually acceptable result. However, unlike compromise, which sometimes reduces the quality of what couples desire, collaboration involves working together to build a bigger ‘pie’, rather than reduce it.

For us, this is critical to growing our friendship and intimacy. When you consciously look out for the very best interest of each other, amazing sparks happen. I mean nothing opens the door to the hearts of spouses more than the knowledge that they can count on each other 100%.
