Social media is often awash with stories of domestic violence, break ups and cheating spouses. Any time such pops up, we consider it a reminder of the reality in some marriages; an encouragement to continue with our assignment of connecting hearts and strengthening families; a reminder of the far reaching consequences of a broken family on our collective wellbeing as a society. As tax payers, we all pay to look after children from broken homes, and if they become delinquent, we all pay to maintain the prison system.
This is why we are often amazed to see people who take their great spouses for granted, they have become used to having peace that they cannot comprehend what a hellish home feels like. In fact, some even think that some of these gory marriage stories are mere NollyWood episodes, an exaggerated ‘reality’.
Their case is like that of someone who has never been broke. Hence, they never understand why broke people avoid window-shopping, even though it’s free, nor do they understand the feeling of being discriminated against, even in your family, because you can’t make financial contributions.
The price we pay for romance and intimacy is insignificant to the collective price we pay as a society to manage a broken home. How much does it cost to say ‘thank you’ for sex, food, supporting the family, partnering with me?
Stop loving the world while your spouse and children are starved of love. “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family”~ Mother Theresa
