Sometime ago, I scheduled a meeting with someone I was supposed to do business with. Out of courtesy and considering I had a flexible calendar on that day, I allowed him to pick a time for the meeting. Unfortunately, he didn’t turn up as expected and didn’t bother to call to let me know he won’t be able to make it.
However, rather than react to the situation, I decided to carry out a pending task I had lined up already. In the process of carrying out my task, I realized that sometimes, when something unpleasant happens, it is important to pause to clarify the value that is being tested. Different situations test different values. For me, that situation tested my integrity, because unconsciously, I decided I would turn up late for the next meeting. I decided to ‘lower’ my high standard because of someone’s poor standard.
I hope to remind you this morning that your values would be tested everyday, you would find yourself in situations where lying, giving up, being rude, being lazy, being promiscuous, may seem to be the easier route, but STOP yourself. Don’t excuse yourself by lowering your standards, don’t draw a line in the sand or set boundaries you will pull down with your own hands ✋. Are you going to fail in the process? Yes, but get up, learn from your mistakes by studying what triggered your behaviour and move on. Fortify yourself, avoid conversations with people who strengthen your lust, greed and fears.
Rave up your standards!!!
