Sometime ago, I was shopping on EBay for an item that cost about £299. As I was searching for it on this lovely day, I was surprised to see that the cost was £30. £30?, I wondered. Oh, this must be fake because even a refurbished one would cost much more. When I looked closely, I noticed that the seller highlighted that that was the cost of the BOX only.
As I thought about it, it dawned on me that sometimes couples give each other ‘gifts’ which may be packaged expensively, but are ’empty’. What does this mean? These are gifts without your presence; gifts to ‘fulfill all righteousness’, not because you really care about the recipient. Hence, they may not be customised to him/her.
This valentine, don’t give an ’empty’ gift, don’t give a gift without giving your heart and your presence. Don’t take your spouse out to dinner if you would be distracted, chatting with work colleagues or some other side chick on social media, why humiliate her? Why say you love him, but you run him down before your family/friends?
Valentine is beyond the cards, the gifts, the trips, the red ribbons, Valentine is about finding ways to express the value you see in each other, it is about meaningful connections and intimacy.
It is a daily lifestyle!
Hence, when we commit to daily Valentine, intimacy with our spouses is inevitable.
