“I am doing my best, trying out every parenting tips I learnt from my parents, especially my mum, but they seem not to be working. It’s exhausting, I don’t know what else to do.”
Just like anything else, parenting requires consistency and persistence before one begins to see results, but what happens when you are not even sure that you are doing the right thing? Parenting in the 21st century is radically different, we have to wrestle with myriads of other factors such as the government, the media, the internet, social media, etc., all trying to chart a course for our children’s future.
Parenting can be challenging and rewarding at the same time. However, we must be open-minded, willing to both unlearn and learn new ideas. Sometimes, parents are so rigid in their ideologies that they forget to consider the changes in times, their environment and the uniqueness of their children. Life is constantly changing, nothing remains the same. We must change and grow if we would be able to equip our children for a better life.
What is your parenting style? Are you over-indulging your children because you don’t want them to suffer the way you did? Have you lowered your standards because you want them to like you? Have you sought God’s face to know his purpose for your child? Do you have a parenting strategy or do you parent based on your feelings?
ACTION POINT: Evaluate and upgrade your parenting strategy, rely on God’s help.
