Sandra: Why do you find it hard to keep your promises? Every time you give your word, it’s as though I am hearing a politician speak. The worst thing is that our children seem to be disconnecting from you emotionally. Why are you doing this to yourself? Don’t you think this is undermining your authority?
Chris: Don’t take it too far, it’s just that I forget sometimes. It’s not that bad. I can always make it up to you.
Sandra: Make it up to me? The pain is that you don’t even think you are doing anything wrong.
Chris: It is not true, have I not apologised, what else do you want me to do?
Victor: Similar scenarios play out in some marriages. A character flaw threatens the marriage in specific ways, yet, the spouse involved is unwilling to work on it. Well, there are no perfect spouses, hence waiting for your spouse to be 100% perfect before enjoying your marriage is preposterous.
Having said that, character is so important in relationships and marriages because who we are is what we bring into our unions. An untrustworthy man/woman would be an untrustworthy spouse.
